Making Windows 7 much more secure

About the name (of this page)

I've met many people asking where this page get its name from. While some call it a tongue twister, actually it's kind of an abbreviation for what this website is about. Its name "ntsvcfg" means:

Put all together: "New Technology Service Configuration". Remember that.

In October 2003, ntsvcfg.de website went online, with the mission to take up more awareness of computer security to everyday users' life. Our premises:

For the coming months and years the idea gained in popularity, because users not just want spending a lot of bucks for a piece of some software, just make them realize it isn't worth anything in case of emergency. When Blaster, a computer worm agressive and infective in its nature, hit the stage, computers believed to be safe now suddenly became worm's first victims. Neither desktop firewalls nor antivirus applications seemed being able to stop worm from spreading in such an excessive way. Only computers whose windows services were set up according to ntsvcfg were reported resistant against this worm. By identifying and shutting down critical services known for their vulnerability, these computers run on safe ground - in the past, present, and in future.

To deploy service configuration on multiple computers, a script written by Torsten Mann has taken over this cumbersome job. It further received excellent feedback, from home users as well as from mid-sized business companies. With its passionated contributers, this website and its script has faced a long walk of improvements over the past years - to provide users with the best experience in computers safety and security.
